2023 Chevrolet Equinox
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2023 Chevrolet Equinox Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

He was at a taco spot in Ventura Harbor when someone grabbed his backpack off the booth. Keys, wallet, phone, gone. He borrowed the cashier's phone, called the police, then his girlfriend, then me.

His 2023 Equinox was sitting in the lot with no keys at all. His girlfriend called the dealer while he waited. They could order the parts, but the car would need to be towed in, it would be three to five business days, and they were recommending a full rekey on top of everything because the stolen fob could still operate the vehicle. The estimate was not small.

I got out there that same evening. All-keys-lost is a different job than adding a spare. When an existing key is already trusted by the car, adding a second is relatively clean. All-keys-lost means wiping the entire key memory so the stolen fob becomes a dead piece of plastic, then enrolling new keys from zero. I cleared the stored key data through the diagnostic port, programmed two new proximity fobs, decoded the lock cylinder, and cut both emergency blades. I walked every button on both fobs and confirmed passive unlock at the driver and passenger handles before I packed up.

He drove home that night. The stolen fob can still physically enter the door lock, but the vehicle security system won't recognize it. The engine will not fire.

The dealer estimate plus a tow and a week without his car was the other option. He didn't take it.
