Got a text from a guy near the Karpeles Manuscript Library in Santa Barbara. His 2006 Equinox had one key left and the transponder side was getting flaky. Sometimes it started, sometimes the SECURITY light on the dash would go solid and the engine cranked but refused to catch. Classic PK3+ rejection.

He had already tried the dealer route. They wanted to tow it in, said the body control module might need replacement, quoted him a timeline that stretched into next week. He found me instead.

I drove out and parked behind his Equinox right there on the street. Plugged into the OBD-II port and pulled codes off the BCM. No module failure. The existing transponder was just reading intermittently, likely a weak chip. I decoded his lock wafers, cut a fresh B111-PT on my Condor, and ran the PK3+ security relearn through the BCM. That relearn has a mandatory 10-minute timed cycle built into GM's theft deterrent logic. No skipping it.

While the timer counted down, he told me he almost bought a blank off Amazon thinking he could program it in the ignition himself. That is not how PK3+ works. There is no self-learn sequence on this platform.

Key turned, engine caught on the first try, SECURITY light cycled off like it should. Whole thing took about 30 minutes. He kept the old key as a backup remote, since the LHJ011 fob half still worked fine.

Saved him a tow, a week of waiting, and a good chunk of money compared to what the dealer quoted.
