A body shop near the Carpinteria Valley Museum had a 2013 Equinox sitting dead in their lot. Another locksmith had already tried a key replacement, hit a wall mid-programming, and left. The dash was throwing "Service Theft Deterrent System" in the DIC, and the BCM was in a fault state. The body shop called me after the first guy stopped returning their calls.
When I got there, the OBD-II port was basically locked out. The previous attempt, probably a power interruption during the PK3+ security relearn, had put the BCM into a hard fault. The 10-minute relearn timer wasn't cycling. It was just stuck.
I pulled the BCM, a Continental unit, and connected my ACDP bench tool directly to read the security data off the chip. Cleared the theft deterrent fault, rebuilt the PK3+ handshake from scratch, and reinstalled the module. After that, the OBD port responded normally. I cut a new HU100 blade, programmed the OHT01060512 with all five buttons, and ran the full security relearn.
The body shop guys watched the whole thing. I walked them through what went wrong so they'd know what to tell the next customer who asks about key work.
Job took about ninety minutes, which is longer than a normal Equinox key. But their alternative was a flatbed ride to the dealer and a multi-day wait. The car drove out same-day.
