Out near Rincon Beach Park in Ventura, a guy flagged me down on what was supposed to be a remote replacement. His 1999 Jimmy had been sitting in the gravel lot with one working key and a dead KOBUT1BT remote for about six months.
He had ordered a replacement remote online, part number 15732805, but could not get it to pair. He had tried the door lock/unlock cycling method he found on a GMC forum and it never took. By the time he called me he had already worn down the CR2032 just clicking buttons at the truck.
I got there and looked at what he had. The replacement fob was the right shell and the right FCC ID, but the board inside was a different revision. The original KOBUT1BT for these second-gen Jimmys uses ABO0104T on the circuit board. His eBay remote had a slightly different board that would not sync with the older receiver module, part number 16245950, mounted behind the dash. This is a common trap people fall into ordering online.
I pulled a correct KOBUT1BT from my stock, popped a fresh CR2032 in, ran the program sequence through the driver door lock switch, and all four buttons came alive on the first cycle. Locks, unlock, panic, rear glass. He just stood there pressing the lock button over and over from ten feet away like he was making sure it was real.
Whole thing took about fifteen minutes. A fraction of what the dealer wanted, and no appointment, no parts counter line.
