2001 GMC Jimmy Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A warehouse worker called me from a strip mall lot near Silverstrand Beach in Oxnard, close to 10pm. His only key for his 2001 Jimmy was gone. Could not find it anywhere. He was about to call a tow truck just to get the thing somewhere safe overnight.
He did not have his registration on him and had no idea what a VIN was. I walked him through it on the phone. Look through the windshield, bottom left of the glass on the driver's side. He found the 17 characters. Then I told him to check his insurance app for his registration info, and it was right there.
With the VIN I already knew his key cut code and that his Jimmy ran Passlock II, meaning the key itself has no transponder chip. I prepped a GM B102 blank and his KOBUT1BT remote before I even left. Cut the key on site, then ran the Passlock relearn through the BCM so the ignition accepted the new cylinder read. Programmed all four buttons on the remote under the parking lot lights.
He got quiet for a second when the engine turned over. Then he just said "man" and kind of laughed.
He drove home that night. The dealer was closed anyway, and a tow plus their scheduling window would have eaten a full day and a good chunk more money. The VIN is the single most useful thing you can text me before I show up. It tells me the key cut, the security system, and what to bring.
