1997 Honda Del Sol
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

1997 Honda Del Sol Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Downtown Santa Paula, late afternoon. A guy called me from the parking lot near the pharmacy on Main Street. His 1997 Honda Del Sol wouldn't turn over. He'd already been through the usual mental checklist: battery seemed fine, lights worked, nothing obviously wrong. He'd borrowed someone's phone to call me because his was nearly dead.

He told me in passing that he was diabetic and his prescription was sitting at the pickup counter inside. That detail changed the urgency of the whole job for me.

I was there in about fifteen minutes. He handed me the key and I could feel it right away. The blade was worn down in a way that was just barely catching the wafers. It would turn sometimes, but not reliably. Add a warm afternoon and an ignition cylinder that probably hadn't been serviced since the Clinton administration, and you get a key that quits on you in a pharmacy parking lot.

I decoded the lock, cut a new key on the spot, and it turned the first try. Clean, positive rotation. He sat in the car for a second before he said anything.

He'd called the dealer before me. Next-day appointment, no guarantees on same-day turnaround. My total time from his phone call to him pulling out of that lot was under 40 minutes, and it cost him a fraction of what the dealer quoted for a future appointment that wouldn't have helped him that afternoon anyway.

He got his prescription and made it home. Sometimes the job is just a key. But the timing is everything.
