A grad student near Fisherman's Wharf at the Harbor in Oxnard called the Kia dealer first. They told her to tow the car in. She drives a 2006 Optima and her only flip key had cracked right at the pivot where the blade folds into the OSLOKA-310T shell. The blade was hanging on by a sliver and she knew one more flip would snap it clean off.
She thought that price was just what Kia keys cost.
I drove out to her apartment complex and used my HY22 Lishi to decode her door lock by reading each wafer position. No need for the broken original blade at all. Cut a fresh HY22 profile, transferred the transponder chip alignment, and programmed through OBD using the vehicle's 6-digit PIN pulled from the immobilizer module.
The part that takes patience on these is the PIN retrieval. The 2006 Optima's immobilizer ECU sits behind the steering column, and the diagnostic handshake through the DLC port has a built-in delay before the PIN comes back. Once it does, registering the new transponder is quick.
About 35 minutes, start to finish. She sat on her apartment steps and read something on her phone the whole time. When I handed her the new key and she started the car, she just looked at me like she expected a catch.
