Then the day of your appointment, you're waiting on a full service write-up, a tech becoming available, and billing that's typically rounded up to a full labor hour. For a 2010 Optima, that whole sequence can take the better part of a week even for a working-key situation. All-keys-lost is worse because some dealers won't even quote it over the phone and want the car there first.

What trips people up: the remote functions and the start authorization are two separate things. A dead or weak battery kills the remote side, so your buttons stop working and the car may not detect the fob from a normal distance. But if you hold the fob right up to the start area, sometimes the car can still read enough signal to allow a start. That's a sign the battery is going, not that the key has dropped out of the system. Swap the CR2032 and test before assuming you need a new fob or a programming visit.

Short range on these is almost always the CR2032 going low before it fully dies. The fob will still click, still feel like it's working, but the signal weakens before the battery reads as flat on a tester. Owners on forums describe having to stand right next to the car to get a response, then assume the fob needs replacement. A fresh name-brand CR2032 usually brings the range all the way back.

If a new battery doesn't fix it, the next thing to check is whether the battery contacts inside the fob are clean and making solid contact. After that, it's worth testing with a second known-good fob if one exists to rule out the car's receiver antenna before replacing the fob itself.
