Had a call from Lemonwood Park last week. Guy's 2021 Telluride wouldn't recognize his TQ8-FOB-4F34 fob after his kid played with it.
The dashboard kept flashing "Key not detected" even with the fob on the dash. He'd already tried the dealer's advice: new battery, hold it against the start button. Nothing. They wanted him to tow it in and wait three days.
I pulled up, connected my Autel IM608 to the OBD port. The BCM showed the fob registered but not communicating. Opened the fob right there on his driveway table. The transponder board (PN: 95440-S9020) was fine, but the battery contact tab had a hairline crack where it meets the board.
Quick solder touch-up, reassembled with a fresh CR2032. The Telluride beeped once and recognized it immediately. Tested all five buttons: lock, unlock, panic, hatch, remote start. Each worked from 30 feet away, which is actually good for these fobs.
His neighbor walked over, mentioned her Sorento key was acting up too. That's how it goes in Lemonwood Park. One fix leads to another. Whole thing took 20 minutes and cost him a fraction of the dealer quote.
