Channel Islands Beach, right off Harbor Boulevard, a Telluride owner called about his backup fob acting weird. Started the car fine, but the remote buttons worked maybe one time out of ten.

I opened the TQ8-FOB-4F71 on his tailgate. Battery contacts looked good, board was clean. But when I checked the signal with my frequency counter, it was all over the place. The transmitter was working, just getting drowned out by all his other 433MHz devices stored together.
Quick fix: programmed him a fresh fob through the OBD port using Kia's security gateway authentication. The old one probably had component drift from years of sitting in that RF soup. New fob worked perfect from 50 feet away.
The dealer wanted him to drop it off for three days because of their backlog. They quoted north of 400 bucks too. I had him sorted in his own driveway in about 40 minutes for way less than that.
