Got a call from a guy up in the Mission Canyon area in Santa Barbara. His 2005 LR3 HSE had been sitting in the driveway for three days because his only flip key snapped at the pivot. The blade was still jammed in the ignition barrel.
He had already called the Land Rover dealer. They told him they would need to order the key blank from JLR, and the estimate was two to three weeks before it even arrived. Then he would need a tow down there since the blade was stuck. He said he just stood in his driveway staring at the phone after that call.
I pulled the broken blade stub out of the ignition first. Not a big deal, but it is one of those things that feels impossible until someone has the right extractor. Then I cut a new NT8-15K6014CFFTXA flip key on my portable machine, programmed the ID46 transponder through the OBD-II port using JLR-compatible software, and ran the on-board remote learning sequence for the three buttons: lock, unlock, and cargo release.
Tested the remote from 30 feet, tested the ignition start twice cold, checked that the immobilizer light on the dash cycled off properly after key recognition.
The whole thing took about 35 minutes. He went back to driving his truck that afternoon instead of waiting on a parts shipment from across the Atlantic.
