A woman on the Westside called me on a Tuesday afternoon. She'd been dealing with a dead fob for a few weeks, just living with it, using the blade manually to get in and turning the key the old-fashioned way. It worked, so she kept putting it off. Then the blade pivot snapped at the hinge and the whole thing became one piece she couldn't fold. New fob shell, transferred the internals, confirmed the blade seated clean, then ran the programming sequence to make sure the remote portion was still pairing correctly after the swap. Tested all the buttons, walked the car, verified the ignition. Everything came back solid.
She'd been quoted a replacement key by a dealer and told to expect a wait for the part. What she actually needed was a shell swap and a bench check, done at the curb in front of her house. A fraction of what the dealer wanted, and she didn't have to leave the neighborhood.
