Got a call from over on the Eastside neighborhood in Santa Barbara. Guy had a 2007 LR3 HSE sitting in his driveway with one flip key that was falling apart. The plastic housing had cracked along the seam where the blade folds in, and the remote buttons were mushy and unreliable. He had been holding it together with a rubber band for about two months.
He told me the dealer quoted him weeks for a factory key order from JLR, plus an appointment after that for programming. He just kept wrapping the rubber band tighter.
I pulled up, grabbed the key blank from the van, and laser cut the HU101 blade on the Condor. Then I seated a fresh PCF7941 chip in the new flip shell, swapped his CR2032, and connected to the OBD port to register the transponder through the CEM module. The LR3 lets you add a key with a working master present, so the whole process moved quick.
The part he watched closest was when I tested the flip action on the new key. He kept opening and closing the blade like a kid with a lighter. Then we tested remote lock, unlock, and start. Everything clean.
He handed me the rubber-banded key. I told him to keep it as a backup in a drawer somewhere. He looked at it and dropped it straight in the trash.
