I was called out to Upper State Street in Santa Barbara on a weekday afternoon. The owner had a 2007 LR3 sitting in the driveway and a remote flip key that had stopped working on the remote side. The blade still turned the ignition fine, so the car was drivable, but the lock and unlock buttons were dead and she was manually keying the door every time.

I popped the fob housing open on my van's work surface. The new battery she'd put in was seated, but the contact tab on the negative side had a slight outward bow -- not enough to lose contact entirely, but enough to be unreliable. I reshaped it, reseated the battery, snapped the housing back together.
Then I walked every function. Lock, unlock, both twice, from across the driveway. Solid every time.
That was it. No new key, no programming, no trip anywhere. She mentioned she'd been about to call the dealer and was mentally preparing for a wait. I didn't say much about that. The job was done, and she had a working key before I pulled out of the driveway.
