I got a call from someone parked near the Historic District in Oxnard. She'd driven herself to run errands, came back out, and the car would crank but not stay running. Not a dead battery. Not a no-start. Crank, catch, die. Crank, catch, die. She'd already called a tow, thinking engine trouble.

Cut a new key blank on site, programmed it to the car at the curb. First turn, it stayed running. She called off the tow.
The dealer option would have been an appointment, probably a couple of days out, and paying for a diagnostic on top of the key work because the shop would have needed to confirm why it wouldn't stay running. She saved a good chunk and got back on the road the same afternoon.
