Got a call from a guy out near Ventura River Preserve. His 2007 G6 sedan just quit on him. He turned the key, the engine cranked hard, and nothing. Dash lit up with a solid THEFT SYSTEM indicator. He tried his second key. Same thing. Tried waiting ten minutes because someone on a G6 forum told him the Passkey relearn takes exactly that long. Still nothing.
By the time I got there he was sitting on the curb scrolling through posts about BCM failures and already pricing out tow trucks to the dealer.
I plugged into the OBD port and pulled the BCM. The transponder data was corrupted on both his keys. Not a dead chip, just a sync loss, which happens on PK3+ systems when the battery dies or gets jumped rough. The BCM on these, part number 25789879 depending on build, stores up to ten key IDs but gets touchy about voltage drops.
I cut and programmed a fresh transponder key on site, ran the PK3+ relearn through the Tech 2 protocol, and cleared the theft flag. Then I reprogrammed his existing keys back in so he had a full set. Tested all three, cold starts, cycling the ignition, making sure the THEFT SYSTEM light flashed and went out the way it should.
The whole thing took maybe 35 minutes. He had been quoted three to five business days by his dealer just to get an appointment, plus a tow to get it there. He drove home instead.
