2009 Volvo V50 Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy in the Loma Vista neighborhood in Ventura called me after watching one of my Volvo CEM bench procedure videos on YouTube. He had a 2009 V50 T5 with one working key, and the remote buttons had gone weak. Range dropped to about four feet. He figured the fob was dying and wanted a spare before it quit completely.
I met him at his place. The original key, part number 31252732, had a swollen CR2450 leaking just enough to leave residue on the battery contacts. Cleaned the contacts, dropped in a fresh CR2450, and range came right back. That fixed his daily driver key for the cost of a battery.
Then the real job. I cut and programmed a new KR55WK49250 remote head key as his spare. On P1 platform Volvos like the V50, key programming runs through the CEM. I pulled the CEM data using VVDI, matched the new transponder to his immobilizer profile, and wrote it back. The whole thing took about 40 minutes including the cut.
We tested all five buttons on both keys, ran three clean start cycles, and checked lock and unlock range from across the street. He stood there clicking both fobs back and forth like he was comparing TV remotes.
He mentioned the dealer quoted him a wait of over a week and a price that made him start searching YouTube instead. He had his spare same day for way less.
