Got a call from a guy near the Ventura Performing Arts Center. His 2010 V50 had a key from another locksmith that worked for about five days, then started acting up. Mornings it would start fine. By evening the immobilizer would cut fuel mid-crank, and the dash would throw "Key not accepted" or just refuse to recognize the fob altogether.
He figured his CEM was dying. I've heard that one before.
I pulled up with my VVDI2 and read the chip in his bad key. Wrong transponder variant. The P1 platform V50 needs an ID48 chip with the correct CAN-based crypto profile matched to the CEM. Whoever did the first job used a close-but-wrong chip type that passed the initial handshake but failed the secondary validation. Volvo's immobilizer is picky like that. It can look like it works, then reject the key once the rolling code cycle catches up.
I programmed a fresh KR55WK49250 with the correct ID48, cut the blade to his door lock, and paired the remote side through the CEM. His CR2450 was also half dead, which made the remote detection range terrible on top of everything else. Swapped that too.
Whole thing took about 40 minutes on the hood of his car. He mentioned the dealer in Oxnard quoted him a wait of over a week plus a tow. I had him driving before his parking meter ran out.
