2006 Acura MDX
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2006 Acura MDX Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in the Sweetwater area of National City, I got a call from a guy at a weekend tasting event at a property near the edge of town. Gravel lot, no cell signal to speak of, and his 2006 MDX had gone quiet on him.

The fob stopped responding. He tried the buttons a few times, nothing. Then he noticed the emergency blade slot on the exterior door handle was packed with grit, so he could not even get into the car the backup way.

He managed to get a text out with his GPS pin. I drove to the pin with everything already loaded for his MDX.

First thing I did was clean out that blade slot so he had a guaranteed way in no matter what happened next. Then I connected my equipment, backed up the immobilizer data before touching anything, and got to work building a replacement remote head key. New key blade cut to the vehicle, transponder enrolled, remote functions registered. The whole job happened on the gravel, hood up, with a tasting crowd wandering past in the background.

He drove out of that lot under his own power. The dealer was not a real option from where he was parked, and a tow would have been its own ordeal. He called it the most useful thing he had seen happen in a parking lot all year.
