Out in East Lemon Grove, a tire shop owner waved me down on a situation that another locksmith had left half-finished.
A customer had brought in a 2007 MDX needing a replacement remote flip key. The first tech got partway through the programming sequence, the tool dropped connection, and the immobilizer went into a fault state. The car wasn't going anywhere. The first locksmith had packed up and gone. The customer was still sitting in the waiting room. The shop owner called me because he had nowhere to put the MDX and a waiting area full of people watching.
I stabilized the vehicle battery with my jump pack first. Then I cleared the fault through the OBD port before starting clean. The immobilizer reset without a fight, and the new fob registered on the first attempt after that.

Voltage drops during the security handshake, incomplete registration, wrong tool state. Any one of those can leave the module in a condition that looks scarier than it is.
Job ran about an hour and fifteen because of the recovery piece. The alternative the customer had been quoted was a flatbed tow, a multi-day dealer queue, and a bill I won't repeat here. I carry backup tools and a jump pack for exactly this reason.
