Out in the Live Oak Park area of Fallbrook, a night-shift warehouse worker had his only MDX fob go completely unrecognized around 11pm. Car was sitting in the apartment lot, wouldn't start, and he was already looking up tow truck numbers and checking dealer hours for the morning.

When I got there, the fob wasn't just low on battery. The car had no record of any working key at all. All-keys-lost on this system means the vehicle's immobilizer memory is blank. You can't just program a new fob on top of nothing. You have to do a full security reset through the OBD port, let the system cycle, then register the new fob from scratch. I connected my diagnostic equipment, ran the all-keys-lost procedure, and let the reset do its thing. These have a built-in wait period during the process. You can't rush it.
New fob registered, emergency insert key cut to the vehicle, tested start and all fob functions. Start to finish, maybe 45 minutes in the parking lot.
He had already mentally committed to a tow bill plus a dealer appointment two days out and a loaner he wasn't sure he'd get. Getting it done the same night, on-site, for a fraction of what he was expecting was the part that got him.
