2009 Acura MDX Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a woman up in Mt. Helix on a Tuesday morning. She had a 2009 MDX sitting in her driveway and a broken flip key that had finally given up after years of use.
The blade had snapped at the pivot point, which is the most common mechanical failure on these folding keys. The fob body itself still worked intermittently, but without the blade she couldn't turn the ignition.
She had already called the dealer. They were booked out, needed to order the blank, and told her to expect several days minimum before she could drive again. She has a long driveway on a hill in Mt. Helix and two kids she picks up from school in La Mesa every afternoon. Days without the car was not a real option.
I was up there that same Tuesday. The job on this generation MDX is methodical but not complicated when you have the right equipment. Cut the replacement blade to her ignition, register the transponder so the immobilizer sees it, then run the remote programming sequence so the lock and unlock buttons come back online. Tested every button, confirmed the ignition started and held, made sure the mechanical key function worked in the door cylinder too.
She was back on the road before lunch. The dealer option would have cost her more money and several days she didn't have. That part almost felt like a footnote by the time we were done.
