Out in Bonsall, near one of the older residential stretches off Gird Road, I got a call from a man who sounded like he'd already had a long morning. He was in his 70s, used a cane, and his 2023 MDX was the car he kept specifically for medical appointments. His only smart fob had stopped waking the car reliably. I swapped the battery, re-registered the fob through the OBD port, and tested every function: door lock, unlock, the liftgate release, and the push-button start response at varying distances. Then I walked him through finding the emergency blade tucked inside the fob housing, because he had no idea it was there, and showed him where the hidden cylinder is on the driver door in case he ever needs it.
He didn't have to arrange a ride, sit in a waiting room, or wait four days. The whole job was done in his parking spot. He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a number that made him pause. He saved a good chunk by calling me instead.
