Your 2008 Acura TL uses a Remote Head Key with 4 buttons on the face, a CR1616 battery inside powering the remote, and either a traditional blade or an emergency key tucked inside the fob. There's also a transponder chip or smart key module that communicates with the car's immobilizer every time you start it.
A single dad at the mobile home park near Casa De Oro had a TL with a cracked fob. The housing had split at the seam and the buttons were barely hanging on. He paid about $185 for the shell swap and new battery. The dealer wanted $395 to replace the entire fob when only the plastic was broken. The electronics inside an Acura smart key can outlast two or three shells if you keep the battery fresh.
