A boat mechanic out in Lakeside had watched me work on YouTube before he ever had a key problem. He told me later that he'd seen me do an Acura job on the channel and just saved the number in case. When his 2009 TL started giving him grief, he didn't second-guess it.

Pulled the fob apart on the hood. The CR2032 inside was reading low voltage, not dead, just soft enough to drop the radio range while the close-range transponder still limped along. That's a pattern I see on these. The fob battery in a 2009 TL does two jobs at once: it powers the radio signal for the door handles and the remote buttons, and it backs up the transponder circuit. When it starts to fade, the radio dies first and the transponder holds on. Owners think the key is failing. It's almost always the battery at that stage.
Swapped the CR2032, seated it clean, and walked every function. Door handle touch unlock, lock button, the trunk release, and the panic. Then I put some distance on it, tested range from across the parking area. Everything came back normal.
He laughed and said he'd been using that little metal blade for two weeks over a two-dollar battery. That's the job sometimes. No drama, just the right small thing done right.
He didn't need a new fob, didn't need a trip to the dealer, didn't need to wait days for an appointment. Took care of it on site, for a fraction of what the dealer would have quoted just to look at it.
