A customer at her loft building in Santee had her only smart key to her 2015 Cadillac CTS fall and crack on the parking garage concrete. The shell split and the emergency blade snapped when she tried to use manual entry. Fob housing in one hand, blade stuck in the door lock. Zero working keys.
I used my VVDI2 to read the transponder data from the cracked fob's chip, which was still intact inside the broken housing. That saved time because I didn't need a full immobilizer reset. I extracted the blade fragment, decoded the lock, and cut two fresh keys. Her fob, FCC ID HYQ2AB, was a 5-button smart key rebuilt into a new shell with the salvaged electronics. I showed her the chip from the cracked key so she could see it was still good.
She went from zero keys to two in about 45 minutes. Total was around $298. A full AKL without the broken pieces would cost more, and the dealer wanted $553 either way. If you still have the broken fob, bring it. The chip inside a cracked Cadillac smart key is usually salvageable.
