2012 Chevrolet Sonic Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A woman in Del Mar Heights called me on a Tuesday afternoon. Her 2012 Sonic was sitting in her driveway and she had one key left. That key was her original, seven years into daily use, and the flip blade was starting to wobble at the pivot. She wanted a spare before it gave out entirely.
She'd already called the dealer. They told her the fob had to be ordered, it would take a few days to come in, and then she'd need to schedule a programming appointment on top of that. She wasn't thrilled about any of it.
I showed up with the fob and the right blank already with me. Cut the blade on site with my mobile cutter, connected to the OBD port with my programming unit, and ran the immobilizer registration sequence to enroll the new key. The Sonic's system reads the security data through the port, so there's no guessing involved. New fob paired, remote functions tested, both lock and unlock confirmed working.
The whole thing took about half an hour in her driveway. She tested it herself before I packed up, which is always the right move. Saved a good chunk compared to the dealer route, and she didn't have to arrange a loaner or shuffle her schedule around a service bay.
She mentioned she wished she'd done it sooner. Most people do.
