A guy in Bressi Ranch called me about a month after buying a used 2015 Sonic from a small independent lot. He was careful about it, too. Asked the lot upfront about the key situation. They handed him one key, told him to get a spare made at a hardware store, and said it was simple.

Tested locks, tested ignition, tested the flip mechanism on both keys.
He had a second working key in about forty minutes. The dealer never came up again after I gave him the final number. He just nodded, pocketed both keys, and said he wished the lot had told him to call a locksmith from the start.
What I didn't say, but thought: that second key also means if he ever loses the first one, it's a standard add-a-key job. Not an all-keys-lost job. Those two things are not priced the same.
