A mushy or silent button with no tactile feedback usually means the rubber contact pad has worn through at that spot, not that the whole fob is dying. A shell swap with a fresh contact pad often brings a dead button back. If the button still has good feel but the van isn't responding, then you're looking at either a range issue or a wiring issue at the door itself, not the fob.
