First, the contact clips inside the fob can develop a light film of corrosion that a new battery won't fix. The CR2032 seats in there but isn't making clean contact. Pop the case, look at the clips, and clean them before writing the fob off.

Second, the flip-blade pivot on these fobs is a known wear point. When the pivot gets loose, the blade shell can shift just enough to slightly compress the battery or put pressure on the circuit board. Owners have reported range coming back after the pivot pin was tightened or the fob was held firmly while testing.

Third, if the fob has been wet at any point, the board can have residue on it that kills range without triggering any obvious warning on the dash. The van may still start fine because the transponder side is working, but the radio range for lock and unlock suffers.

If cleaning the contacts and checking the pivot don't fix it, the fob body itself may need replacement and reprogramming.
