2012 Dodge Grand Caravan
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2012 Dodge Grand Caravan Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in the Live Oak Park Area of Fallbrook, a guy had just come back from an auction with a 2012 Grand Caravan. Good buy, clean title, one working key. The auction told him to sort out a spare on his own. He assumed it would be a quick, cheap errand.

He called his local Dodge dealer first. The number they gave him for a spare smart fob stopped him cold. He'd already spent what he had on the van, and dropping that kind of money on a key wasn't something he could absorb right then. He found me online and asked if dealer pricing was just the norm.

I told him it was, but that he didn't have to go that route.

We met right there before he even pointed it toward home. I had the right blank with me, cut the blade on my machine to match the van, and programmed the new fob through the diagnostic port so the vehicle's security system recognized it as a valid key. The pivot on his original fob was already getting a little loose, which I mentioned so he'd know what to watch for down the road.

He left with two fully working keys. Lock, unlock, all seven buttons doing what they're supposed to. The part I always tell people: having that second key now means any future replacement is a straightforward add-a-key job. Lose one key when you have a spare and it stays simple. Lose the only key and it becomes a longer, more involved process. He understood that right away.

The dealer comparison was almost an afterthought by the time we were done. He'd saved a good chunk, and he didn't have to arrange a tow or wait for a service appointment.
