I got a call on a Sunday from a woman over near Casa de Oro, not far from the Spring Valley area. She'd already been burned once. A different locksmith had charged her full price for a replacement key on her 2001 Ford Escape, and the car still wouldn't run right. It would crank, catch, idle for about two seconds, then shut itself off. She'd been told the car had a module problem and that she needed to get it to a dealer. The other locksmith had already left.

I connected through the OBD port with my programmer, cleared the failed key data from the previous attempt, and ran a fresh programming sequence the right way, including the full timed security countdown the system demands. Then I cut a second blank and programmed that one too, because Ford's immobilizer on this generation won't release until two valid keys are confirmed in memory. I tested both keys myself: full crank, clean idle, no stall.
She watched the whole thing from about two feet away. When the engine stayed running, she didn't say anything for a moment. Then she just said, "That's it?"
That's it. Done on site, in Spring Valley, for a fraction of what the dealer wanted, and the job was actually finished this time.
