2024 Ford Escape
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2024 Ford Escape Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A woman in Downtown Oceanside had her only fob go through a full wash cycle. She noticed when she pulled laundry out and found it at the bottom of the drum. The 2024 Escape started fine that morning. Now it was sitting in the school pickup line not recognizing the fob at all.

She had kids waiting, a pickup window closing fast, and the dealer had told her Friday was the earliest open slot. It was Wednesday afternoon.

I drove out to the school lot. Popped the OBD port, connected my programmer, and ran the key registration sequence. The fob with the factory FCC ID printed on the back was learned to the car in about 20 minutes. While the security timer counted down, I walked her through the battery swap process on a new fob so she'd know what to do down the road.

I told her the washed fob was probably done, but to let it dry out for a few days before throwing it away. Moisture damage to the circuit board is unpredictable. Sometimes they come back. Usually they don't.

She pulled out of that lot on time, both kids buckled, full key function restored. The dealer route would have meant a tow, a wait, and losing most of Friday. She paid a fraction of what they would have charged and spent maybe 30 minutes total with me on site.
