He mentioned he'd called the dealer first. They were talking about ordering a replacement fob by VIN and had him scheduled out almost a week. He didn't need any of that. The key was fine. It just needed a battery and about twenty minutes of my time.
I was back on the road before the afternoon got away from me, and he made whatever he had going that evening without a second thought about the car.
