A guy in San Ysidro's Border Area called on a Wednesday midday. He was stuck in a parking structure and had back-to-back obligations through the afternoon. His FX35 fob had hit the concrete floor of the garage that morning. He heard it clack, picked it up, and from that point on the car didn't acknowledge it. No response from the door handles, no startup. He found my number, explained the situation, and asked if I could come to him because the car wasn't moving anywhere.
I pulled into the garage and found the FX35 exactly where he said it would be. He met me at the car, handed me the fob, and went back to a call.
First thing I did was open the fob and look at the board and battery. The CR2032 had shifted just enough to lose clean contact on one side. I reseated it and tested. Still no response from the vehicle. That told me the board had taken enough of the impact to knock out the transmitter side. The key was not coming back.
I programmed a replacement fob to the vehicle through the OBD port, verified all four buttons, walked the door handles, and confirmed the engine started cleanly. The old fob got wiped from the system so it cannot be used if someone finds it.
He came back down when I texted him. Checked everything himself, nodded, and that was it. His car never left the spot. The dealer would have needed the car towed in, a parts order, and a multi-day wait. He paid a fraction of what that route would have cost, and he lost maybe twelve minutes of his afternoon.
