Out near the CSUSM Area in San Marcos, a woman finishing a late shift at an outpatient clinic walked to the employee lot around 9 p.m. and got nothing from her 2011 FX35. No response from the door handles, the start button just sat there, and the fob felt completely dead in her hand. Not a weak-battery situation. Dead.

I connected to the OBD port, ran the Intelligent Key registration procedure through my programmer, and paired a fresh 4-button replacement fob to the vehicle. Then I didn't rush the test. I walked every door handle for touch unlock, checked the start button, ran all four buttons including the lock and unlock, and made sure the emergency insert key turned the door cylinder correctly. You don't hand someone a key in a dark parking lot and say good luck. You confirm it works, standing right there.
She was in her car and driving home about 35 minutes after she called. The dealer would have had her waiting until Thursday, paying more, and arranging her own ride both ways.
She didn't do any of that.
