A recent college grad over in Nestor had just picked up a used 2010 Infiniti M45 from a CarMax lot. Nice car, clearly taken care of, but it came with only one key. The salesperson told him to sort out a spare on his own.
He called the Infiniti dealer first. The number they quoted him for a spare Intelligent Key stopped him cold. He'd just signed financing on his first real car and that kind of add-on wasn't something he'd budgeted for. I confirmed the fob spec from the factory FCC ID on the back of his existing key, matched the correct replacement, cut the emergency insert blade to his vehicle, and connected to the OBD port to pull the PIN and register both fobs together. The all-in-one session is how this system works: you can't add a second key without the first key present, so having him there with the original was the move.
Both fobs came out working. Lock, unlock, trunk release, all four buttons responding correctly. He drove home to Nestor with a spare in his pocket, and I reminded him that having two keys now means any future replacement is a simple add-a-key job instead of the longer all-keys-lost procedure.
The dealer comparison didn't really come up again. He'd already saved a good chunk just by making the call.
