2018 Infiniti Q60
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2018 Infiniti Q60 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

It was a weekday evening in Lakeside Proper. A woman called me from a parking garage. Her 2018 Q60 was locked, and her infant was strapped in the back seat. She had stepped away for thirty seconds to return a cart. When she came back, nothing worked. The fob was silent. No response from any button, no proximity unlock at the handles. She could see the baby through the glass.

The dealer was closed. A tow wasn't going to help her. She needed the door open, right then.

I got there and opened the car first. That was the only thing that mattered in that moment. She got the baby out, and then I had room to actually figure out what happened to the fob.

It wasn't the battery. The CR2032 read fine on my tester. The circuit board inside the fob had failed, which is a different problem entirely and one you can't fix with a fresh cell. On a car where both keys are registered and you still have one intact, there's a path that doesn't require a full all-keys-lost procedure. This was all-keys-lost territory, since the failed fob was the only one she had.

I worked through the OBD port with the right equipment, extracted the security data, and registered a new fob to the car. Cut the emergency insert blade to match the door lock. Walked through every button and both door handles to confirm everything was talking correctly before I packed up.

The baby slept in the stroller the whole time.

She saved a significant amount compared to what the dealer would have charged, but honestly that's not the part of this job I think about. Some calls are just about getting someone out of a bad situation, and that one did exactly that.
