A call came in from Alpine Village late on a weeknight. The guy was in a parking lot off the main stretch, standing next to his 2004 QX56. He'd been there a while. His only remote head key had been on a crowded keyring that he'd handed to a valet earlier, and somewhere between that handoff and getting back to his car, the key was gone. Not misplaced. Gone.

The QX56 at that age needs the key registered to the immobilizer system, so I went through the programming procedure using my diagnostic equipment. New key built, cut to the vehicle, registered and tested.
He stood back while I ran through every function, locks, unlock, the panic button, then cranked the engine twice to confirm the immobilizer was seeing the new key cleanly. No stall, no warning light, no drama.
He drove home. The dealer would have needed the car towed in, a couple of days minimum, and charged him a number that would have hurt. He called a mobile locksmith in Alpine Village instead and was home before midnight.
