2009 Infiniti Qx56 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy in San Ysidro Village had just driven off a used car lot with a 2009 QX56 and exactly one key. Big truck, full size, the kind of vehicle you buy because you actually need the space. He was happy with the purchase. Then he called the Infiniti dealer to ask about a spare.
He texted me the number they quoted. I told him I could meet him the same afternoon and do the same job for a fraction of that. He asked if I was serious. I told him I do these every week.
I met him in his driveway off the main stretch in San Ysidro. He had his registration ready, which I appreciated. I pulled the VIN, confirmed the key specs, and matched the correct fob from what I carry. The QX56 on this generation uses a four-button Intelligent Key with a small emergency blade tucked inside. I cut the blade on site, registered the new fob to the vehicle through the OBD port, and walked every function: door lock, door unlock, the rear liftgate button, and confirmed the start system recognized both the original and the new key.
The whole thing took under an hour on his driveway. He said he kept expecting it to get complicated. It didn't.
The part that stuck with me was when he mentioned the dealer had also told him they'd need to keep the truck for most of the day. For a spare key add. I handed him two working keys, packed up, and let him enjoy the rest of his afternoon.
