2025 Infiniti QX60 Emergency Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy in Libby Lake, over in Oceanside, right around noon on a Wednesday. He had driven to a friend's place the night before, left the fob on the center console, and the interior light had drained the battery enough overnight that by morning the smart key was giving nothing. Car sat there locked and unresponsive.
He knew there was an emergency blade inside the fob but had never used it. He found the release tab, got the blade out, and then stood there staring at the door handle trying to figure out where it goes. That part is not obvious the first time.
I walked him through finding the cover on the phone, but the real issue was going to be the start. Getting in with the blade is one thing. The fob still has to communicate with the vehicle to authorize a start, and his battery was too far gone to do that wirelessly.
When I pulled up, I swapped the battery in the fob first. Clean contact points, no corrosion, just a fully depleted cell. That got the wireless signal back. Then I connected through the OBD port to confirm the key was still registered to the vehicle and check whether the system had logged any faults during the communication dropout. It had flagged something in the security module, so I cleared it and cycled the system to verify the fob was responding normally across all functions.
He was back in and running in about 35 minutes. He told me the dealer had quoted him a wait and a parts order just to look at it. He hadn't even called them after hearing that from a neighbor. Smart move coming to me first.
