I decoded the lock from the readings, cut a fresh blade, and programmed the transponder through OBD. His key uses a separate remote, FCC ID HYQ1512V, so the fob was fine. He just needed the new metal key with the correct 4D chip.
He was back on the road in under an hour from when he called. Total was $185. Dealer would have charged $395 plus a tow and a multi-day wait.
