I got a call from a couple out near the Lake Poway area, older retired folks passing through on a road trip. They had one key for their 1999 Nissan Maxima and it had been working fine for years. Then one afternoon the car just wouldn't go. It cranked, caught for a second, and died. Over and over. They thought it was a mechanical problem at first.

I cut it on the machine in my van, then handled the transponder programming on site. The whole job took about 30 minutes in that motel parking lot under decent overhead lighting.
They tested the key themselves. Started clean, held, no stall. The woman held it running for a solid ten seconds just to be sure, which I completely understood.
The dealer appointment they would have needed, the tow, the overnight wait, none of that happened. They were back on the road that night. What they paid me was a fraction of what the dealer quoted, and that's before adding tow costs.
