2022 Nissan Maxima
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

The pattern is always the same. Low number quoted on the phone, price doubles once you're stuck and they've got your attention. Then they can't answer basic questions about your specific vehicle. Here's what a real locksmith does: they tell you over the phone what the job involves on a 2022 Maxima, what equipment is needed, and give you a real estimate before anyone drives anywhere. We do all of that.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like my original?

Yes. A properly programmed replacement fob for the 2022 Maxima gets registered to your vehicle's immobilizer the same way the factory unit was. The engine starts, the security system recognizes it, and the remote functions operate normally. We test every single button and verify the dash warning is clear before we close the job. We don't hand you a key and drive off hoping it holds. If something isn't right, we sort it on site.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online. Can you just program it, or do I need to buy one from you?

You can bring your own fob and we can attempt to program it, but there are real risks with aftermarket and gray-market fobs for this vehicle. The 2022 Maxima smart key system uses a specific transponder chip that has to match what the immobilizer expects. Some fobs sold online look identical on the outside but have counterfeit or incompatible internals.

Q: My 2022 Maxima starts fine, but one of the door handles stopped responding to the touch sensor. Is that a fob problem?

Almost certainly not the fob. If the car starts and other handles respond normally, the fob is communicating with the system just fine. Touch sensors on door handles are a known wear point. Dirt, moisture, and sun exposure around the sensor area can degrade responsiveness over time, and California sun near the Santee Lakes Area does real work on exterior surfaces. Start by cleaning the handle area thoroughly and retesting.

2022 Nissan Maxima Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy parked near the Santee Lakes Area, over by the campground entrance. He'd walked back to his 2022 Maxima after a morning out and the fob just stopped working. Doors wouldn't respond. He pressed the start button and got a key-not-detected warning on the dash. He'd had the car maybe eight months.

He tried the backup key insert on the door handle, got in, and then sat there wondering what to do next because the car still wouldn't start. Smart move stopping there instead of forcing anything.

When I pulled up, I had him hold the fob flat against the start button area while pressing it. The car fired right up. That confirmed the fob itself was alive, just not broadcasting with enough range to be picked up normally. The CR2032 inside was reading low on my tester, sitting right at the edge of where the system stops trusting it.

Swapped the cell, re-seated the contacts, tested all five buttons, walked the door handles, and verified the dash warning was gone. Then I sat with him for a few minutes and showed him the induction trick so he'd know it if it happened again.

He asked about the dealer. I told him what he already suspected, which was that they'd want to order a new fob and schedule him out a week. He didn't need a new fob. He needed a fresh battery and someone who showed up.

Nissan Maxima Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Nissan vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz holds a California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services locksmith license and carries full liability insurance. For the 2022 Maxima specifically, programming a replacement smart key requires professional diagnostic equipment that communicates with the vehicle's immobilizer and security system. We have the tools and the credentials to do that legally and correctly. Not every locksmith advertising online can say the same. A lot of guys have a generic OBD programmer and hope for the best.
