2007 Nissan Maxima Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was out in Buena Creek on a Tuesday morning, parked in a driveway off one of the quieter streets near the creek bed. The owner had a 2007 Maxima sitting in front of his garage and a fob that had stopped talking to it.
He'd already tried the obvious things. New CR2032, yes. Checked it twice. The car would see the key sometimes when he held the fob directly against the start button, which tells you something right there. That trick, pressing the fob body to the button to use the backup RF pickup, means the passive detection range is gone but the key isn't completely dead. The vehicle's immobilizer still recognized it at close range. The fob just couldn't broadcast far enough to trigger normal operation.
I pulled up the vehicle info, confirmed the key against his VIN, and checked the fob internals first. The battery was new but one of the contact clips had a slight outward bow. Not dramatic, just enough to lose solid contact under vibration. Clean contacts, reseat the battery with the clip straightened, and test range from the normal operating distance.
That alone brought the passive detection back. Doors waking up on approach, start button responding without the fob-to-button trick, lock and unlock working from across the driveway.
He didn't need a new fob or a dealer visit. The whole thing took under twenty minutes. He asked what the dealer would have charged just to look at it, and I told him they'd have started with a diagnostic fee before touching anything.
