A mobile dog groomer in Spring Valley Village had been carrying her spare key for two weeks after her main fob stopped being recognized by the car. She'd already tried a new battery.
The spare was working, but she knew she was one misplaced key away from a real problem, and she didn't want to find that out at the end of a long grooming day with a van full of gear.
She'd called the dealer first. They quoted her a price I'm not allowed to repeat here, told her the key had to be ordered, and gave her an appointment slot that was nine days out. She found me through a search and figured she'd at least ask.
I met her at the car wash vacuum area off the main strip in Spring Valley. The original fob was the issue, not the spare. The chip inside had dropped off the immobilizer's registered list, which can happen after a battery runs completely flat on these. The car had simply stopped recognizing it.
I pulled up the vehicle through the OBD port, read the current key data, and added the original fob back to the system alongside the spare. No new key needed. Tested every function: touch unlock on both handles, push-button start, lock, unlock, the panic button. All of it confirmed before she packed up and left.
She saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer wanted, got it done the same evening, and didn't lose nine days of work waiting on an appointment. The immobilizer doesn't care where the programming happened. The result is the same.
