2012 Nissan Maxima Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Do you need to tow your 2012 Nissan Maxima to the dealer? Probably not. For most Nissan models from the mid-2000s through the late 2010s, I handle all-keys-lost right at the car.
A swing shift electrician in Alpine had his only key die at home late at night. His Maxima was in the mobile home driveway with push-to-start and no fob the car would recognize. He assumed a tow was inevitable and started looking up costs and planning his week around getting to work without a car. I told him to stay put and that I'd come to him.
I connected my Smart Pro to OBD and ran the Nissan Intelligent Key AKL procedure, which walks through the immobilizer handshake, erases old key data, and learns new fobs. His Smart Key, FCC ID KR55WK48903, was a 4-button proximity fob with an emergency insert. I programmed it in his driveway at 11:30pm. He seemed pretty surprised it could happen right there.
His total was about $284. Dealer would have been $482 plus the tow. There are a small number of very new Nissan models with AES encryption where my tools don't have AKL coverage yet. Those do need the dealer. But for the majority of Nissans on the road, 2005 through about 2021, I do all-keys-lost on-site. If yours is an exception, I'll tell you straight up.
