A parent over in Fernbrook had a problem with timing more than anything else. She was at the school lot for a conference, had a pickup across town at 3pm, and her key had stopped starting the van. It would turn in the ignition just fine, but the engine would crank, fire for a second, and then immediately stall. Classic immobilizer behavior on this generation. I ran the key programming sequence through my tool at the OBD port, registered the replacement transponder key to the van's immobilizer, and verified the chip read was clean at the antenna ring. The engine started and held. No stall.
She left the lot with time to spare. The dealer comparison came up, but honestly it was almost beside the point. The bigger thing was that she did not lose her whole afternoon over a key.
