2015 Toyota Sienna Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy over in the Bancroft area of Spring Valley flagged me down with a text that just said "key snapped, stuck in the ignition, need help now."
When I pulled up, half the blade was in his hand and the other half was seated in the ignition cylinder of his 2015 Sienna. He had somewhere to be and the timeline was not flexible. The van had the Smart Key setup, so there were two separate problems: extract the broken blade fragment from the cylinder without damaging the wafer stack inside, then get a working replacement made and programmed so he could actually drive away.
I used an extraction tool set on the hood next to the cylinder. The fragment was not spinning freely, but it had not locked the wafers in a bind either. Slow, deliberate work. It came out clean with no scratched wafers.
From there I decoded the lock, cut a new blade, and used my programming equipment through the OBD port to enroll the replacement into the vehicle security system. His original fob was fine, so I only needed to match the new blade and get the transponder element paired. Walked every function before I packed up: start, lock, unlock, and the sliding door buttons on the fob.
He drove off inside an hour from first contact. The dealer option would have meant a tow, a service appointment, and a wait that did not fit his day at all. He saved a good chunk and kept his schedule. A snapped blade in Spring Valley traffic does not have to be a two-day problem.
