2006 Toyota Sienna
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2006 Toyota Sienna Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy in the Las Americas Area of San Ysidro flagged me down in a parking lot. Not literally, but close enough. He called from his phone standing next to his 2006 Sienna, said he'd lost his only key somewhere between the shopping center and his car, and wanted to know if he really had to tow it to the dealer.

He'd already looked it up. A forum thread from years back told him Toyota dealers are the only ones who can program the transponder on this generation. The dealer's service line didn't help. They quoted him an appointment several days out.

I got there inside of thirty minutes. The Sienna was sitting right where he left it, locked, no working key anywhere. All-keys-lost on this vehicle means the immobilizer has nothing registered to work with. I used the OBD port under the dash, ran the job through my diagnostic equipment, cut a new blade to his vehicle, and got the transponder chip enrolled. The whole sequence, including the timed wait the system runs internally, took under forty-five minutes on site.

He started the van on the first turn. Sat there for a second like he expected something else to happen.

The dealer would've wanted the vehicle towed in, probably held it overnight, and charged considerably more. His van never left that lot.
