Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2014 Toyota Sienna Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got the call from Lomas Santa Fe on a Tuesday night. She was still in the parking structure at Rady Children's, her kid had just been discharged, and the fob had gone completely dark.

Pressed the lock button, nothing. Tried the door handle touch, nothing. She found the emergency insert key and got the door open, but the engine would not start. The dash was showing a key-not-detected warning and staying there.

She had a tired, recently discharged kid, a bag of discharge paperwork, and a prescription she needed to fill. Eight in the evening, dealer closed.

I drove out, got the door confirmed open, and pulled the fob apart right on the hood. The CR2032 had a film of corrosion on the positive contact, the kind that looks fine at a glance but kills the connection. Cleaned the contact, seated a new battery, and she could start the car. The fob itself was still good. No programming needed, no new hardware.

I walked every function before I left. Touch unlock on both front handles, the sliding door buttons, lock, and the backup start procedure just so she knew it existed. Everything clean.

From her call to engine running was about 35 minutes. She got her kid home, got the prescription sorted, and had one fewer thing to worry about that night. That is the whole job.
