2009 Toyota Sienna Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a tire shop in Casa de Oro. The shop had brought in another locksmith to cut and program a replacement transponder key for a customer's 2009 Sienna. That locksmith got partway through the process, hit a communication error, and left. The car would not start, the owner was stuck, and the tire shop needed it off their lot.

When I got there the situation was about what I expected. A failed programming attempt had left the immobilizer in a fault state. The module was not talking over OBD at all. Standard approach was not going to work here.

I pulled the immobilizer module and went to the bench. My bench tool reads the security data directly off the chip when the bus is locked out. I cleared the fault, read the key registration data, and rebuilt the key table from scratch. Then I cut a new key blade to the vehicle, programmed the transponder, and reinstalled the module.

First start attempt after the reinstall, the engine came up clean. No warning lights, no hesitation. I cycled it three more times to be sure.

The owner had already been quoted a flatbed tow and a multi-day dealer wait. He was looking at that whole ordeal. Instead he drove out of the tire shop parking lot about ninety minutes after I arrived, for a fraction of what the dealer route would have cost him.
